materialism

i never believed tt i was materialistic, or class-conscious, or tt i possessed any of the so-called qualities of those high maintainence girls tt i knew i could never be.
but when it comes to the crunch i question and wonder, and i've never had as much self-doubt as i do now.
"for better or worse.
through thick and thin"
the utterances of men and women who in the space of 20 minutes, make decisions tt will force them to spend the rest of their lives together (provided of course, tt divorce does not come into question). sometimes you wonder if people who say what they say actually know what they're promising. it's like signing on contracts without reading the terms and conditions, and you know how many people just do tt.
but these words don't just apply to marriages and happily ever afters. they apply to relationships, or just states of being where, heaven forbid, the word 'love' is inexorably intertwined.
as much as i prefer not to say it, i am of a certain class, as are my friends. no matter what we are or where we come from or what we do, we are a certain class. even if we live in hdb flats and our parents don't own cars, we can still buy our nike shoes. we can still eat at fish and co. we can still go for movies or ktv or buy $25 flaming lambos if the mood takes us.
how do you deal with differences?
i will be strong. i will be supportive. i will be understanding. i will wait things out. i will be here to help.
but i won't promise forever if this threatens to.

in other news, this evening the singaporeans had a post-dinner ben and jerry's fiesta in the tv lounge, and we were watching america's next top model. i think it's the latest season though coz i don't recognise a single face. but oh man the bimbo and bitch factor is always there, no matter how the girls change.
and this is a good emo take on the Marvin Gaye version. listen to it.
What's Going On
- A Perfect Circle
Mother, mother,
There's too many of you crying,
Brother, brother, brother,
There's far too many of you dying,
You know we've got to find a way,
To bring some loving here today
Father, father,
We don't need to escalate,
You see, war is not the answer,
For only love can conquer hate,
You know we've got to find a way,
To bring some loving here today
Picket lines and picket signs,
Don't punish me with brutality,
Talk to me, so you can see,
Oh, what's going on,
What's going on,
Yeah, what's going on,
Ah, what's going on,
Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong,
But who are they to judge us?,
Simply because our hair is long,
You know we've got to find a way,
To bring some understanding here today, Oh
Picket lines and picket signs,
Don't punish me with brutality,
Talk to me,
So you can see,
What's going on,
What's going on,
What's going on,
What's going on.
