to surrey we go!

it seems every time i agree to go out with ben we end up travelling around greater vancouver.

it started out with lunch. our 1st meal of the day. farnie, ben and i'd slept at between 5 to 6 am this morning, and when i woke up i suspected tt my 2 lunch counterparts would still be in lalaland, so i called ben 1st. he picked the phone up groggily and when reminded of our lunch date at varnier, returned with a muffled "umph". so i assumed he'd prob gone back to sleep. farnie came online and i decided to make unilateral lunch plans with her; at 12.40pm 10 min before we were supposed to meet, she changed her mind and went back to sleep again.

and ard tt time, a not-so-amused ben called from varnier demanding to know where farnie and i were.

OOPS.

turns out he *did* wake up after all.

anyway we ended up having lunch at totem, cuppacino/grande mocha at starbucks, and fundamentalism with steve wrexler. which today, was actually bearable. actually managed to raise a few questions in my head.

after tt, ben needed to go downtown to change money for alvin, so i tagged along. we ended up at nikko japanese restaurant on robson street sharing shitake and prawn tempura (which were really good, esp the shitake mushrooms), salmon sashimi and chawanmusi. but we were there so early tt as much as we tried to kill time by staying at the restaurant to drink the free green tea, we realised we couldn't stay there forever, so we decided to do another round of the skytrain.

we took the skytrain from burrard all the way to surrey central in surrey, greater vancouver.

we'd boarded the first carriage, and there was a window in the front of the train. so we could sit in front of the window and watch as the train sped through the tracks. it was almost like being on a roller-coaster, just tt it wasn't scary or anything. but it was SO COOL. watching buildings and trees and roads and night lights just breeze past. and crossing the big suspension bridge over the fraser river... tt was just amazing.

we got to surrey around 8-something pm. coz we saw a safeway, we went to get avocados for simin. then we walked around a bit, and found this small family style bowling alley.

with - get this - 5 pin bowling!!!

the bowling ball was miniature. it looked more like a short putt ball than a bowling ball per se. it didn't even have 3 holes for your fingers. you just held the whole thing in your hands and bowled! and the pins were half the size of normal bowling pins!

it was so cute.

so ben and i played 2 games. i hadn't bowled AT ALL since my record-streak of *9* points all those years ago, so i started my game with mainly longkang balls. but ok lah. 2 games, 58 and 77 points respectively. damn fucking embarassingly lousy, but at least better than 9 points. heh. but yeah. damn fun lah. and damn cute. and needless to say, ben did twice as well as me lah.

we walked ard a bit more, but seeing nothing more, we decided to head back to vancouver. where after leaving the skytrain station, we stopped over at the congee noodle house on broadway and main for a sinful supper of roast pork, char siew noodles and pork liver noodles. damn good lah, but damn heavy. we also daboed congee for alvin and simin, then took the 99 b-line back.

for some reason, today ben seemed v forgetful. very unlike him lah, losing stuff. but the bus trip was funny. we had a funny bus driver. he enjoyed making funny comments at various stops. at cambie in front of the rbc bank building, he mentioned something about taxpayer's dollars. at willow outside the vancouver general hospital, he said: "vancouver general hospital. when you break it, they fix it!" at macdonald, he said "macdonald. but sorry folks. no french fries, happy meals or golden arches here." sasamat was known as sexy mat. and at ubc, he called it "the ivory tower for the oversized ego and the intellectually elite." and he hoped tt our "ëssays were pencil-sharped and properly googled".

funny like hell. amazing stuff, these canadian bus drivers.

we went to gage to hand over the stuff to simin and alvin and stay to chat for a while with them and joann and alvin. by the time i got back it was past midnight.

and i need to pack my stuff asap for tomorrow.

i'm leaving for mexico tomorrow, lah.

will be back on sun, 20 feb.

see you guys around then.
