the final leg
finally. back in vancity.
after waking up at 6.00 am and non-stop travelling from 7.00 am (chicago time) onwards, i reached vancouver at 4.20 pm - 7.20 pm chicago time.
15 days of travelling, and i must say tt it's probably one of the best experiences i have ever had since embarking on this programme. all the things i've seen, everything tt i've experienced, both the good and the not-so-good, the friends i have made and the people i have gotten to know better because, and even having to travel on your own and to deal with surprises like delays and missing flights and rushing from terminal to terminal to catch your plane... it's definitely molded me in ways both obvious and not-so-obvious (but remain to be seen once tested).
having had pretty eventful travelling experiences with aeroplanes the past 2 times, i entered o'hare airport expecting the worst. but very very fortunately, the flights were a dream. the flight from chicago was smooth, and so was my transition from terminal to terminal. and on the flight from toronto to vancouver, although it was 5 hours long, it was very pleasant, and it helped tt i had a very cute new zealander who was on his way to vancouver to ski for 5 months. he'd been back-packing in thailand and laos, and then had made his way to london and scotland for the winter. and now he was going to the cootnays in british columbia... and he'd been skiing since he was 13.
oh, and did i mention tt he was cute? and very very friendly?
we had this really animated conversation coz i was reading dan brown's angels and demons (the other book i bought from barnes and nobles besides the hardcover edition of neil gaiman's anansi boys, which was REALLY cheap coz it was on a 50% off discount so i paid only US $13.00 for a book worth CAD $36.95 in canada (i LOVE the strength of the canadian dollar right now), and he was a fan of dan brown too (who isn't?) and was telling me how much better he thought this book was as compared to the da vinci code.
i think i've been pretty lucky so far, in terms of flight partners. on my flight from vancouver to toronto the first day with tt 1 and a half hours delay on the runway, my partner was a younger mark mcgrath lookalike snowboarder. from my flight from ny to chicago which was delayed 4 hours, my partner was this really sharply-dressed young blonde in a suit and blazer who was really REALLY cute (he looked like a slightly older version of tt frat boy). and today i had a cute kiwi skiier to talk to.
heh. besides tt, i'm hoping to compile photos of the nyc trip - i don't have any of chicago coz my camera is officially dead - for a photolog. it'll be nice to see all those photos come together. :) and i'm so enthralled by all the musicals tt i've seen, especially wicked, tt i just have to listen to the songs over and over.
i loved ana gasteyer in her role as the lead character for the chicago on broadway version. her voice is out of this world. i wish i could buy the dvd for wicked so tt i can watch it again and again. or maybe it's coz i always love shows where the ugly one gets the happy ending in the end.
now playing: hotel costes - cafe de flor
