ben and i were on bus #4 on the way back from downtown to ubc at 11.45 pm...

...and i was remarking to him, how funny it seemed tt we had intended to spend today doing 3 or 4 6-min races of go-karting... but we had been out for one whole fucking day.

anyway this morning's dota attempts had not materialised. nor had my running attempts. goddamn 0 degree temp. no way am i running in 0 degree temp. the way i'm coughing right now i'm probably going to get an asthma attack and keel over and die somewhere in between marine drive and chancellor boulevard or something. wahaha.

but anyway after ascertaining tt both parties were suitably awake, ben and i decided to meet @ the 99 bus loop at 12.30pm, where we would take tt bus and change to the 98 b-line and go to richmond, where this go-karting place tt we were intending to visit today was located.

all well and good. managed to grab a grande mocha and share a salmon sandwich from the starbucks at chapters before catching the bus. unfortunately, there were no "ben sleeping" photos today because he kept awake all the while. spoiler. *sulk*

we got off opposite richmond shopping centre and had lunch @ this shanghai chinese restaurant where the waitresses spoke to us in mandarin - not cantonese - which made us both v happy! we hate being assumed to be cantonese. i'm teochew and he's hokkien. it's a sore point. not every motherfucking yellow-skinned person is cantonese lah!!! please get over yourselves!!!

we ordered xiao long bao and a bowl of braised beef noodle soup to share. not v fantastic, but they gave FREE CHILLI!!! tt made me v v happy. i almost single-handedly emptied out the whole container, as ben can attest to with much disbelief. wahaha. you haven't seen me eat chilli in singapore yet. trust me on tt. dragonboat chilli bans are my NIGHTMARE.

after lunch, we decided to WALK to the go-karting place. we bought a map from a news stand at richmond shopping centre, and it didn't look tt far on paper.

well. we walked for *FOUR FUCKING HOURS*.

from richmond shopping centre to the go-karting place on 2100 viceroy place... we started our walk at 2.00 pm, and reached the place at 6.02pm.

i kid you not. it looked so simple on the map; it didn't look so simple when we realised the scale was 11500 (i think). 1 fucking box was 1.5 km.

it was fun walking from richmond shopping centre in the direction of the airport station on bridport road. in fact, we had fun stopping by the mega pet stores on the way and looking at the cute little dogs and bunnies and hamsters and birds. we even found out tt you could keep ferrets and hedgehogs as pets, and tt a baldwin guinea pig is really tt - bald!!! oh, and ben actually spent a considerable amount of time in front of this $1,900 parrot's cage trying to get the damn bird to learn how to say "fuck you". and yes, it was quite a ludicrous sight to see him squatting in front of the cage cajoling the damn bird: "come on. say "fuck you". "fuck. you.", while the damn bird just kept on eating. wahahaha.

i was very much amused.

after the airport station however, it stopped being fun and started being funny.

it was another 1.5 hours from there i think. and it was strange. we were walking and laughing to ourselves about how strange we must have seemed to all the locals; two crazy chinos wandering around the sidewalks in a literal uluville (we'd walked out of the city centre to this place which sold stuff like gardening tools, limestone and building parts). we were even considering renting a car because we didn't know how much longer we'd take, but they only rented trucks and tractors and ben said tt there was no way he was going to park a tractor in front of fairview.

we also ended up walking into this fast food joint "chicken and spuds" to discover the only arabic community in the heart of richmond. just when things couldn't get any weirder, we also found an ikea on sweden road.

we finally found burrows road off the no. 6 road at 5.45pm. and this is how burrows road looks like.

straight and endless. and yes the sun was setting. the only moving vehicles we saw on the road were really really old cars and trucks tt would slow so tt the drivers could oogle at us in disbelief.

to the left and right of the road would be farmland.

like this. you'd have horses running around. ben wanted to take this photo just to prove his point.

but finally...

we found the goddamn godforsaken place in the middle of uluville.

it was 6.02pm by the time we walked through the doors of the go-karting place. we decided to buy 3 races.

me with helmet on race track.

i had no licence, and starting with the go-kart took a bit of getting use to coz my control was fucking lousy. started out crashing into walls. and a bit slow. but once we warmed up we could more or less zip through the race tracks with a relative amount of ease. 1 race lasted about 6 min; i could do about 9 or 10 laps within tt time, while ben who was faster could do about 11. but ok lah... i new driver mah. wahaha.

but go-karting damn fun!!! again!! again!! wahaha. but 4 hour walk nonwithstanding, please.

we called a cab back to the airport station to take the 98 b-line back. thank god. while waiting for the cab we challenged each other to a game of daytona, in which i crashed my car so many times tt ben fears me when i get my tracom licence. wahaha. actually i also fear myself so tt makes the both of us. also played a bit of time crisis - i keep on dying just before we clear area 1... ARGH!!!... until the cab came.

then it was back to our fave jap restaurant on robson st for a veritable feast. we scared the waitress, we did. between the two of us we ordered 1 plate of salmon sashimi, 1 plate of beef ribs with garlic salt, 1 plate of bbqed pork yakiudon for me, 1 plate of shitake tempura, 1 plate of prawn tempura, and 1 plate of katsudon for ben. the best part - we finished everything.

then it was on to denny's for ice-cream... only because i'd been craving it. i wanted to take my requisite "ben smoking" photo, but he kept walking behind me and dodging me when he was smoking (basket!!!) so i gave up. so today no "ben smoking" photo. only got a "ben @ denny's" photo. okay lah... better than nothing.

denny's still seems to be our fave restaurant.

we hung around denny's till 11.30pm discussing stuff... i also can't remember what. then it was over to 7-11 to get him more cigarettes, and we caught the #4 back around 11.45pm (or later i think). reached totem around 12.30am.

and ben says we're going to have DOTA at 4am. can't wait. i wanna see if i can kill heroes this time round. wahaha.

ooh. and for the people who are wondering, YES I AM LIVING IT UP.

i am a student on exchange in a faraway country with the chances to do what i could never do in singapore. i may not have the chances, time or money to come back here ever again to do the things tt i can do now. i may never get a chance to snowboard again, i may never get a chance to catch rob thomas and death cab in concert again, and i may never get a chance to go-kart again. so don't impose your judgments and your values on me. these are are my reasons, and my reasons transcend the material.

this is life, and life is now. life is for the living. it's not about waiting for something to happen. take a leaf from "garden state". and stop waiting.

coz one day you'll realise tt you were waiting for something tt had already been there all along.
