third time's a charm
we went to cypress for the third time today - ben, i, and this time, we managed to convince diana along. so it was onward to around 6 hours of fun and boarding in the snow snow snow.
did i tell you tt i *lurve* snowboarding? esp now tt i can do the turns (albeit slowly and not too well), and i can just do run after run without feeling winded the way i used to. even though when it comes to getting off the damn ski lift, i *still* fall all the time, once even hitting my head on the chair itself in the most unglam fashion.
yes, tt's izzy for you.
but yeah. cypress was a picture today. it's been SNOWING in vancouver since last night - in MARCH too!!! and it's supposed to be SPRING!!! the weather is weird. but well... cypress was obviously a winter wonderland with all those pretty white-capped trees and powder powder powder!!!

view from the ski lift up to the panorama run.
ooh... and just to show tt we've been here...

me and diana...

and me and ben.
not very glam lah but it's fucking cold. cannot afford to be glam.
oh wait. ok lah. 1 glam shot.

me and snowboard. wahaha. nope, no photos of me getting hit in the head by the chair lift. wahaha. tt one should be deeply ingrained enough into the heads of my compatriots.
anyway interesting things... well... i LOVE snowboarding. ok i mentioned tt already but yeah, even though i still had a hefty number of falls today (i fall ALL the fucking time!!!), i had a whole bunch of fun! i think i'm beginning to tackle tt pesky fear of steep slopes... a little more mastery of my control and i can SPEED through the runs like those expert snowboarders! EXCITING!
as for falls... today i had nothing as scary as the last time i was here. no gravity-defying stunts; no flying goggles or beanie. ok, i did do a couple of tumbles, face-first slams into the snow, and the requisite make-your-vertabrae-crack fall (whoo. tt was amazing!), but i survived ok. the large orh ches on my knees are back, nice and round, but those are to be expected. and i have an orh che on my arm, of all places. but other than tt, all i'm feeling as a result of the boarding is this giant ACHE tt permeates through my entire body, esp my upper body (back, neck and shoulders). feels pretty good tho.
ben was more ambitious. his third time on the slopes and he's more or less mastered turns. what he's been doing today is jumps. i.e. boarding upslope and jumping off the highest point of tt slope. he admits tt both of us are masochistic. go and torture ourselves only. wahaha. but seriously, he took a couple of funny falls today - i.e. thinking tt a pile of snow was a slope, and instead of travelling up, going right INTO the snow pile and so-called "hugging the snow". haha now tt is a kodak moment to behold. but he did get quite a lot of snow into his clothes - 3 layers of snow, to be exact. spent some time on the collins run taking off his jacket and shaking snow from all his shirts underneath. and i thought he was crazy to do tt in the fucking cold.
speaking of collins, there is an AMAZING view from the ski lift up this run.

admiring the gorgeous scenery helps taking something away from the bitter cold. and YES, it really was cold. tt's the thing about boarding. it's always so fucking cold.
as for diana, this was her second time boarding since tt one time at whistler. took a while to warm up, and she did fall pretty badly the first time injuring her wrist, much to our concern. but she did good lah... like me when i first came to cypress. one or two more times and we'll be all about the same.
ooh. and did i tell you? we saw this really adorable little MOUSE in the snow... and i thought tt it was lost and out of its habitat and i wanted to bring it somewhere warm... but the two of them told me tt this WAS its habitat and tt i would effectively be taking it out of tt habitat. OOPS.
but ooh it was so so cute. :)
anyway speaking of cute, we CANNOT have a snowboarding photolog without the requisite ben shot -

things to do in vancouver. :) (if you're ben)
anyway we missed the 6.15pm bus, so while waiting for the 8.15pm bus, we exchanged phrases in cantonese (diana), hokkien (ben) and teochew (me). esp the hokkien vulgarities. like the tongue twister "kah ji chiu ji, phua siu dai zhuo zhua" (literally: break leg break arm, be handicapped and move like a snake). and all the fricative curses. wahaha.
ooh. but dinner was nice. we had dinner @ this japanese restaurant on robson st called nikko japanese restaurant. ben and i were famished, so we ordered a hell of a lot. salmon sashimi, plates of mushroom and prawn tempura, soft shell crab, beef yakiudon and eggplant yakiudon for diana, and 2 bowls of jap rice for ben. and 1 bowl for miso soup for me too.
a part of the reason is coz i can't take the cold too well. everytime i'm too cold i start to get sick and cough, and i was coughing again tonight. damn SIAN. esp as it was snowing again, and it was really fucking cold. according to the weather report, it's currently 0 degrees but it feels like -4 degrees, and in vancouver this is fucking COLD. brr. the walk back to totem was a veritable torture to me.
but yesh. now we are back and now my muscles are so aching and heavy tt i swear my bed is calling to me somehow. another day tomorrow. had a lot a lot of fun this week. from tomorrow it's time to hit the books man.
goodnight.
now playing: hotel costes - cafe de flor
