a visit of the familiar

i started out my friday proper (morning rant nonwithstanding) by meeting dear kailing for lunch. she's been interning @ mtv for the past 6 months, so meeting her was really convenient coz her office was at p.s. we could just walk over to parklane for yummylicious $3 wanton mee, which includes both wanton in soup as well as fried wanton, and char siew. pretty decent stuff. and the carrot orange juice was pretty good too. not enough ice tho. wahaha.

my only complaint was the weather. the goddamn humidity. sun is one thing. heat is one thing. me sweating like a pig all fucking afternoon is quite another. kai insists tt canada has made me soft. with regards to singapore weather, i couldn't agree more. sadly.

after tt it was one to an hour or two at the "bourgeois gym" - so says yunshan -, and then to trim my hair after a year of letting roots and all grow out freely. no i don't look any different. hair is hair, and at some point in my life i contemplated going bald, but i think my face is too fat not to obscure some part of.

was supposed to drag ben, who finished his internship today, to dinner with wanyi and gang, but wanyi messaged me at 6pm to tell me tt dinner had been cancelled. it seemed everyone had messaged her last min to cancel on her, and the poor girl had already come out to town without any dinner plans. fortunately she was able to find another friend to dine with.

me having over an hour of free time on my hands and nothing to do, i decided to vegetate at the comic book section in kinokuniya while waiting for ben to come over. i managed to read 1 crossover comic book between marvel and image tt would have otherwise cost me $35.18. the graphics are still gorgeous and flipping through comic books always make me wonder what i might have been had i once heck cared my parents all those years back and chose comic art school over science. but oh well, what is done has been done.

orchard was a complete bitch tonight. well, it's a complete bitch every night, to be honest. too many people. singapore has too many people. in tt respect, i miss the space of canada. you barely have any here, at least not in orchard, and especially not on a friday night. we wanted to eat japanese food, but the queue was terrible, so we ended up having chicken rice (with white chicken) at far east plaza. but i think the starbucks iced mocha tt i had drunk earlier kinda upset my stomach, so i couldn't really eat too much. however, ben could. and at least the coffee helped wake me up.

after dinner, we wanted to catch a movie, but the only movie tt seemed worth watching - "goodnight and good luck" - was no longer showing @ night at cine, and most of the other movies looked dumb. plus, once again, too many people. we tried recreating the magic of having a cup of starbucks coffee as per vancouver, but somehow it felt different. i think it's the terrible heat and humidity. no matter what, you cannot just sit down relac, smoke cigarette (him at least) and enjoy your cup of coffee.

because it is just too damn hot.

his alternative was to vege out at borders. mine was to walk from clarke quay to the esplanade.

hey, at least we get to see more of singapore by night.

so we started from somerset, through killiney, through oxley and past mohammed sultan. me being unusually high on caffeine, was entertaining us both. actually i think i was entertaining myself, but he just happened to have to be there too.

between kissing and trying to suppress this persistent urge to gnaw on his fingers, we made it to clarke quay, what with me sweating very profusely. i think i'm literally dehydrating myself of all the fluids tt i have drunk all day.

anyway clarke quay hasn't changed too much since i walked by last year before i left. it's still quaint chic and bohemian, what with the many bars and cafes and the outdoor lotus leaf settings. not tt anything really appealed to us other than the haagen daz ice-creams tt we had to buy to beat the terrible heat, but it was pretty. walking through clarke quay beside the singapore river was pretty.

more so, walking past boat quay and the singapore river. all the memories, especially of regatta. ben knows tt i am particularly biased towards this area. we sat down outside parliament house and i was pointing out starting and ending points and talking abt the last river regatta i'd taken part in. in return he'd tell me about the office culture in the law firms tt oversaw the singapore river, and how hardworking lawyers would still be hard at work late on a friday night, thus explaining the lights on on almost every level of the particular office blocks.

then, because i had to answer the call of nature, we casually strolled into the fullerton, where we lounged on the chairs for a while to attempt to escape the heat. didn't work, but we did get this.

*muakz* yay! for once i look taller. :)

and after tt, we continued walking from the fullerton to the esplanade, where i got to give him yet another commentary about race although this one was less detailed (then again, he seems to already know all about my races from having read this blog), and then we took a bus back to my home. and um, got a nice stare from the guy behind us, apparently. i guess singaporeans are not entirely ready for canadian expressionism (my own term). wahaha.

close to my home, i finally admitted tt i was now damn hungry. so we adjourned to the prata place at upper bukit timah for mee goreng and milo dinosaur (for me). yay! i love indian mee goreng. heh. and later chiang liang and his cousin jason also joined us. jason was very nice too - they sent me home in his van. tt was around 1.15am.

and tomorrow... (or technically speaking, today) we're going cycling at pulau ubin, if all goes well.
