curiouser and curiouser

today was actually a day worth blogging about. kinda.

started out nothing too diff from any other day. spent my day studying (attempting to) and watching movies off my laptop. today it was 'the princess bride' (recommended by floormates) and '21 grams'. ooh. and i have *FINALLY* found tt hotel costes song tt i love love love - cafe de flor. i heard it once in a car ride almost a year ago, and i had been trying that song ever since. i'm glad i finally found it.

and in case you're wondering, hotel costes is ambient/chill-out type music. i know i normally don't go for mellow tunes, but i recommend this group for nights in or relaxing car rides. esp their 4th album quatre.

anyway during dinner, kengleng told me tt she, xinyi and yulius would be going to the plaza club with a friend of theirs from business school. so i decided to tag along. this friend was a cambodian-canadian who'd actually studied in singapore for 10 years; since he had a car of his own, he picked all 4 of us up from campus. then we headed to this english pub off west 2nd avenue called king's head pub for drinks. i had a strawberry maguerita, which was blended and cost me CAD $4.99. it was pretty good. we met 2 more of the friends from business school there as well, and we had a decent time chilling out.

made it to the plaza around 11.30pm. but unfortunately, the clubbing wasn't great coz the music, imho really sucked. not tt it was particularly bad, like trance, but i do not enjoy "a-go-go club hits". i cannot dance to "sweet child of mine", even though i can sing along to it. the only bright sparks were probably groove armada's "superstyling" and madonna's "hung up". but interestingly enough, as i was watching the people dance around me, i got reminded of him and how we used to club in singapore.

i guess i've mentioned before, but i am a sucker for guys who can dance. and dancing with him always turned me on coz he was such a good dancer; ex-mambo king nonwithstanding. it was strange to be reminiscing at tt moment. but well. i was a very good girl. completely sobre. didn't drink anything beyond the strawberry maguerita. didn't really dance either.

in the end, the seven of us left the club early (i guess the music was not to the rest of their tastes either) and we tried to look for other happening places to go to. but there isn't tt much available in vancity on a thursday night; trust me compared to singapore the clubbing scene here is pretty sad. clubs all close at 2am, for one.

so we settled for supper on w 4th ave at this vegetarian restaurant. so much for light meals. my soup and bread order was served on a huge plate with curried pumpkin soup tt tasted more like a thick curry gravy without any spices (it wasn't hot at all) and i had to eat it with really heavy bread. was struggling all the way; apparently it appealed to yulius more than me, coz he finished my plate for me (and his own plate was unfinished). and we had interesting conversation about food in singapore, reminiscing abt the easy availability of tau huey and late night eats in geylang, changi or any s11 kopitiam; about the laws in singapore including the hanging of nguyen tuong van almost 14 hours ago.

came back to my room around 3am. and guess what i saw?

this is my room door. while i was gone, it had been decorated to look like a christmas present.

i'm speechless.
