She'd thought tt 50 had been BANNED from Canada, seeing tt some politician (this Liberal MP) in Toronto had been lobbying to ban 50 from performing here in light of the recent spate of gun violence in Canada. There had been 49 gun deaths in Toronto this year, and yes. Guns are legalised here.
I guess tt explained the heavy metal detector searches at the concert. Even 50 himself said tt it took HIM 2 hours to clear immigration (something is SERIOUSLY wrong if a multi-platinum artiste needs to wait in line for 2 fucking HOURS to clear security), and he couldn't bring half of G-Unit over (i.e. Mobb Deep couldn't come. FUCK. I wanted to hear "Outta Control" live badly. GRR.), and he'd been given a lot of shit for wanting to perform in Vancity too. All this because an ass in the Canadian government started getting into his head tt rap music CAUSES gun violence.

We don't need something remotely similar. Suddenly the debate on gay marriages is back up again (fyi, same sex marriages have been recognised in Canada under the Liberals since Spring), the Conservatives are pushing for tougher drug laws; there's something about health and defence going on too (will someone please do something about the whole bunch of homeless people on the streets?).
And obviously to appeal to the moralistic prudes of society (fortunately, Canada has a smaller proportion of moralistic prudes as compared to my home country), some people decided to make a point by turning back 50 at the border. Well. Personally, I think this whole thing is bullshit. It's always been. Different countries, different governments, same fucking politics. So 50 has a criminal record. So 50's lyrics glorify gun violence, "without thought to the moral consequences". How exactly do you intend for him to write his songs? "Dear God, I shot someone and I'm so sorry and I should go turn myself in?" How the FUCK do you make tt rhyme?

Montreal is currently hosting this year's UN Climate Change Conference, and people have been gathered outside the centre for the conference protesting against global warming. I have a feeling global warming has something to do with the fucked up weather tt we are having. I remember how the European Union had a previous policy of just focusing on economic expansion, and ignoring all the environmental ills involved until it came to the point where they realised tt the environment was in shambles and the rivers were polluted and people were getting sick and dying. This was called the "Third World Mentality" - where you focus primarily on the economy and neglect to develop all other factors (sound vaguely familiar???), and this "Third World Mentality" was killing the environment.
